Oxford University Press (OUP), the largest University Press in the world, is a department of the University of Oxford. It furthers the University’s objective of excellence in research, scholarship, and education by publishing worldwide. OUP East Africa Ltd (OUPEA) furthers the university’s mission in research, scholarship and education by publishing quality educational materials for Kenya. OUPEA is seeking to recruit high calibre, results-oriented and experienced professional freelance editors in all subject areas.

Summary of the position

The freelance editor will report to the Editorial Manager. He/She will manage projects, including editing the allocated projects to the required standard, from manuscript stage to pre-press, and within set budgets and to set schedules. The freelance editor will adhere to the OUP house style, and set guidelines.


Knowledge, skills and abilities

  • A bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject area
  • At least 2 years’ experience in editing, teaching or related area
  • Working knowledge of editorial processes, educational publishing industry and research skills
  • Onscreen editing
