Oxford University Press (OUP) is a department of the University of Oxford. It furthers the University's objective of excellence in research, scholarship, and education by publishing worldwide. OUP is the world's largest university press with the widest global presence.

It currently publishes thousands of new publications a year, has offices in around fifty countries, and employs approximately 6,000 people worldwide. It has become familiar to millions through a diverse publishing program that includes scholarly works in all academic disciplines, bibles, music, school and college textbooks, children's books, materials for teaching English as a foreign language, business books, dictionaries and reference books, and academic journals.

OUP has been working in education in Africa for 100 years by publishing for local curricula and bringing international standards in publishing. We work hand in glove with local authors and teachers to ensure our books make a difference in the countries we serve.

Since 1954, Oxford University Press, East Africa (OUPEA), has been a pacesetter in publishing in the region, by employing high quality, innovative and well-researched methods to meet learners’ needs. Teachers and learners are at the center of our organization because we know the future of Africa depends on an educated community.


OUP is East Africa’s number one dictionary and literacy publisher, and we produce a wide range of quality curriculum-compliant educational materials for use in the classroom and at home. Using local experts and authors, we have published more than 2,000 titles in Swahili and English. Through our efficient processes and distributor network, we have been able to reach millions of learners, teachers and lecturers with our books each year.

We publish books at all academic levels including:

Teachers play an important role in imparting knowledge. At OUPEA, we support teachers in achieving their educational goals by providing quality educational resources and training through organizing subject teachers across East Africa.
